A 16-year study, which employs data from about half a million men and women, concludes that a diet rich in fish predicts a long life.
This study published in the Journal of Internal Medicine and it revealed that eating fish enhances human health and extends life.
The study indicated that eating fish, especially high in omega-3s, reduces the risk of premature death and promotes human health.

The researchers were able to reach this result by targeting 240,729 men and 180,580 women for 16 years, and found that 54,230 men and 30,882 women had died during the study.
The researchers reported that male participants who consumed fish regularly had less risk of premature death, in addition to:
  • About 10% decrease in death from heart disease.
  • Cancer death risk reduced by 6%
  • 20% lower risk of dying from pneumonia
  • The risk of death from liver disease decreased by 37%.
As for women, the results were as follows:
  • 10% less risk of dying from heart disease
  • Reduced risk of Alzheimer's death by 38%
Researchers discovered that men and women who consumed the most omega-3 acids had a 15 and 18 % reduction in cardiovascular deaths, respectively.
They switched their analysis to specifically consider the level of omega-3 intake from the participants’ food intake surveys.
The survey results were quite interesting and add to the evidence for the health benefits of omega-3 and fish in general.
It should be noted that these results did not apply to fried fish. The researchers emphasized that, in order to enjoy the benefits of eating fish, it should not be cooked frying.
